“Xyleme LCMS enables us to independently create and review course sections, mix and match modules for easy customization & publish courses on-demand worldwide, significantly decreasing our overall product development time.”
SCORM Player
Xyleme's Learning Content Management System (LCMS) is fully certified by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative for SCORM 2004. Courses created within the Xyleme LCMS product can be run on virtually any LMS with lower levels of SCORM support to instantly provide the more powerful SCORM 2004 capabilities. Leading LMS vendors leverage Xyleme’s SCORM compliant LCMS to take advantage of key functionality, like content reusability, prescriptive testing and simple sequencing.
Xyleme provides a number of different options for the Xyleme LCMS SCORM Player:
Xyleme Courseware Player
Xyleme Courseware Player is designed to be easily integrated into existing SCORM 1.2 learning management systems to provide powerful SCORM 2004 capabilities. This highly scalable solution provides LMS vendors with the industry’s most sophisticated content reusability model, delivering courseware that is highly interactive, supports prescriptive and adaptive learning, and leverages innovative instructional strategies.
Xyleme's player performs navigational rules processing (simple sequencing) on the client rather than the server to minimize network usage and can run on any standard browser platform such as Internet Explorer and Firefox. An open and flexible “skin” architecture enables easy customization of the player's look and feel. Xyleme provides the following LMS integration options, each optimized for quick and seamless implementation:
Proxy SCO Servlet
In this option, the SCORM compliant 2004 course is loaded into a Servlet while a SCORM 1.2 manifest is loaded into the LMS. When the user launches the SCORM 1.2 manifest from the LMS, it redirects the SCORM 2004 course to the Servlet, which tracks and maintains the user’s performance and bookmark data. When the session is complete, the results are summarized into a SCORM compliant 1.2 format and passed back to the LMS.
Xyleme provides utilities to automate the generation of the SCORM 1.2 manifest from a SCORM 2004 package as well as integration tools to help automate the courseware loading process. This solution is optimal for LMS applications that currently support only basic SCORM 1.2 capabilities or are operated in hosted environments.
SCORM 1.2 Wrapper
In this approach, the SCORM compliant 2004 course is processed via a Xyleme utility that wraps the SCORM 2004 course inside a SCORM 1.2 package. The SCORM 1.2 course is loaded into the LMS, and, once loaded, it launches the SCORM 2004 course. The player tracks the required performance and bookmark data, and when the session is ended, the data is compressed and passed to the LMS using standard SCORM 1.2 protocols.
This solution requires that the LMS is SCORM 1.2 certified, as it leverages CMI data fields to pass data between the player and the LMS.
Direct Integration
For LMS vendors that would like tighter integration, Xyleme provides the ability to have the LMS directly launch the SCORM compliant 2004 course and report results back via http or SOAP. In this approach, the player passes summary XML results to the LMS providing the ability to mine user data for statistical analysis.
