Listen to this really helped to reshape the approach I am taking as a Sr. Manager for Learning Technolgoy to introduce more formal learning opportunities throughout our organization. With a perspective: If informal learning is to be aligned to our standards of quality, making it accountable, and effective in terms of results then might this start to become somewhat formalized as a result of all the control? Where do I-Learning and F-Learning blend together and how can we as learning leaders continue to provide informal learning opportunities without transforming them into more structure and calculated ones?

Thanks, Dan.

What you are talking about is exactly where I hope we are going. Alas, it is slow, slow, slow.

Still, it is what we want, and quite the opposite of inflexible catalogues of lengthy courses that require people to come to the regional center or campus--- when it is convenient for us. And then we can worry about transfer.

Check out our book web site. Might find it useful. Hope so.

A very insightful conversation. The concept of PS "Planner" and "Sidekick" makes a lot of sense to me. As a past trainer/facilitator I have often shared the vision of "help" being immediately available, not realizing that I was envisioning the concept that already exists, called Performance Support. I've longed for a solution in using software, like Excel for example, that not only could get me "un-stuck" by hitting the F1 key, but wouldn't it be great if there were an option to select something like, "I have 5 minutes, teach me more about using a pivot table." And even better, offer a solution to guide me through the process instead managing another layer of help windows. Thanks for the insight Dr. Rossett!
