ABOUT THE PRODUCT

How long will it take to learn how to use the software?
Typically an instructional designer or writer can become proficient in our Learning Content Management System in one or two days.

What types of video, animation and audio are supported?
Any type of rich media can be included. A media object can store print, web, mobile and other renditions such that when the media object is used within a print publication, the print rendition is used. Or when the media object is used in a web publication, the web rendition is used and so on.

How is versioning handled?
Whenever you check-in any content, version history tracks the changes. This is true at every level of granularity, whether it is a topic, lesson or course. At any time, you can roll back to a prior version if necessary.

How is metadata supported?
You can add unlimited metadata to any content object. A metadata vocabulary management capability allows you to define and maintain global metadata vocabularies. This allows users to pick metadata values from a list.

How is navigation implemented?
Xyleme LCMS uses SCORM 2004 navigation which allows an author to define navigational controls. We support forward only (via Next button), Flow (via next and back) and choice (via a tree controller). Nodes on the tree can be hidden, skipped or disabled based on sequencing rules.

With which Learning Management Systems have you integrated?
We can integrate with any SCORM 2004 or 1.2 certified LMS and have successfully integrated with GeoLearning, NetDimensions, SumTotal, Cornerstone, Plateau and Intralearn to name a few.

Do you support AICC?
We do not have an AICC adapter at this time.

Is the software multi-lingual?
The user interface is currently available in English and Spanish. The software has been designed to support other languages and we are working with our partners to offer other languages in the future.

How do you handle language translation?
There is a workflow process that allows you to manage the full cycle for internal or external translation processes. If you use third-party tools or services, you can export content for translation and then import it back into a language specific folder after update. We provide visibility into the changes between versions in master language, which helps to lower translation costs.

Do you support outputs in right to left and Asian languages?
Yes.

Do you support PENS?
Yes.

Are you 508C compliant?
You can create outputs that are 508C compliant. The application user interface is not 508C compliant.

ABOUT OUR SERVICES & SUPPORT

How long does it take to implement the software?
It depends on the scope of the implementation. A minimum of 10 days is typically required, but enterprise implementations may require substantially more effort.

Do I need IT to support the software?
Xyleme LCMS is designed for little to no IT administration. Support will be required to assure proper network connections, desktop configuration and backup/recovery.

What is required to customize the software?
It depends on the type of change. Xyleme LCMS includes a comprehensive library of authoring and publishing templates than can be configured to customer specific requirements. Skins for web courses and style changes for print outputs can be made through configuration. Sequencing rules can be changed in the templates. Output changes may require customization through changes to the XSLs.

ABOUT CONTENT MIGRATION

Can you convert PowerPoint slides into XML?
Yes, this is a standard feature of the software. Each slide will automatically create its own XML topic with the text extracted and images stored in the media repository.

Can you convert Word documents into XML?
Yes, this is a standard feature of the software. This may require customization depending on the structure and consistency of the source documents.

What other formats can be converted into XML?
We can support Excel and FrameMaker as well. Any format that can output XML can theoretically be converted, but the structure and consistency of the source content will determine how much effort will be required.
